Jot

Your notes. Your choice.

Privacy policy for Jot: Private Notes & Ideas.

Notes stored on your iPhone

Jot saves notes in the app's local storage and an Apple App Group shared with its widgets and shortcuts. Jot has no user account, developer-hosted note server, advertising or analytics. App data may be included in device backups according to your Apple settings.

Voice and on-device intelligence

Voice transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. Jot does not send voice recordings to an AI endpoint. When Apple's on-device Foundation Models are selected, AI processing happens on your iPhone. These features depend on your device and Apple Intelligence settings.

Optional external AI

You can choose Anthropic or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, including a server on your local network. Before Jot sends any AI input, you must separately allow the named provider and endpoint in Jot Settings. The confirmation names the endpoint and explains what will be sent.

After you allow it, Jot can send note text, dictated text transcripts, related-note text and coaching conversations for automatic titles, tags and to-dos, transcript correction, Tidy and Grill me. Existing unfinished notes may be processed automatically. An endpoint may forward requests to another model provider. Your provider receives the API credential needed to authenticate your requests, and sees network information such as your IP address.

The provider's own terms, privacy policy, retention rules and charges apply. Some providers retain content for safety, abuse monitoring or other purposes beyond a single request, and may associate it with your provider account. Jot does not control those practices. Review your chosen provider before allowing it.

API keys are stored in this iPhone's Keychain. They are not stored in a Jot account or sent to a Jot server. You can stop future requests in Settings or switch back to Apple on-device. Stopping cannot recall data already sent. Ask the provider about deleting retained content.

Exports and other apps

The share sheet and Send to actions share the content you choose with the selected destination. Sending to Reminders requests Reminders access when you use it. Things and Bear receive content when you choose their handoffs. Markdown exports go to a folder you select. If you enable automatic updates, Jot keeps that folder updated with your notes. The folder's storage provider may sync or retain files under its own policies.

Removing data

Delete a note in Jot to remove its local copy. Data already exported, backed up or sent to a provider must be removed separately from those destinations. There is no Jot account to delete. You can remove API keys from Jot Settings.

Support messages

If you email Jot support, we receive your message and email address to answer your request. Google Gmail and your email provider handle delivery. Avoid sending private notes, credentials or API keys. Deleting a note or the app does not delete support emails. You can ask Jot support to delete messages you have sent; copies in your own email account and backups are managed separately.

Changes and contact

This policy describes release 1.0. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date and, where needed, another in-app permission request. For support or questions about this policy, email supportjot@gmail.com.
